About the position
Agoda is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its Back-End Engineering team in Bangkok, Thailand, with relocation provided. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable platforms and data pipelines that serve millions of users daily, while owning the full product lifecycle from requirements through CI/CD and monitoring. The engineer will mentor team members, drive architectural decisions, and collaborate cross-functionally to improve system performance and reliability.
Candidates need 8+ years of experience building performance-critical production applications using Scala, Java, Kotlin, or similar modern languages, plus strong RDBMS knowledge. The position involves directing significant company-wide projects, setting technical vision, and implementing advanced CI/CD and testing strategies. Knowledge of NoSQL, queueing systems, and the Play framework is a plus.
Responsibilities
Own the full life cycle of products, from business requirements through CI/CD and monitoring
Design, develop, and maintain platforms and data pipelines
Build stable, scalable, and highly performant systems
Write great code and mentor others on the team
Foster cross-functional collaboration to drive product and technology goals
Requirements
8+ years of experience developing performance-critical applications in production using Scala, Java, Kotlin, or relevant modern languages
Strong RDBMS knowledge (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or other)
Ability to direct significant company-wide projects and set technical vision
Deep involvement in architectural decisions and setting team direction
Implement advanced CI/CD pipelines and robust testing strategies
Nice to have
Knowledge in NoSQL, queueing systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, MSMQ), and Play framework
