About the position
The Compute Platform team operates the fleet of bare metal and virtual machines infrastructure that every product at Agoda runs on. This role involves taking technical ownership of ACP, Agoda's in-house orchestration stack for dedicated-resource virtual machines on bare metal, alongside broader fleet lifecycle tooling and automation. The position requires designing, building, and operating compute and fleet tooling in Go and Python, managing systems that interface with Kubernetes, OpenStack, and hardware management APIs. The engineer will lead medium to large projects, participate in System Design Reviews, and troubleshoot issues at scale across global data centers. Additionally, the role includes interviewing and mentoring engineers to raise the hiring bar for compute and fleet roles.
Candidates must have 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong background in infrastructure or compute systems, including bare metal, virtualization, Kubernetes, and OpenStack. The role requires strong distributed systems development skills in Go, with Python being advantageous. Experience owning and evolving distributed systems such as control planes, orchestrators, or agents in production is essential. The ideal candidate will have practical experience with Kubernetes in production, comfort using agentic coding tools, and a strong understanding of observability for distributed systems. A track record of leading technical projects and driving architectural decisions is also required.
Responsibilities
Own and evolve the architecture of ACP, including the orchestrator, per-host agent, and CLI
Design, build, and operate Agoda's compute and fleet tooling in Go and Python
Lead medium to large projects across Fleet, Compute Platform, and adjacent teams
Participate in System Design Reviews and influence architecture across the engineering organization
Use agentic coding tools for design, implementation, testing, and review
Troubleshoot product and system issues at scale across global data centers
Interview and mentor engineers across the team
Define and use clear measures for ACP reliability, operational load, and delivery quality
Work with Software Development, Infrastructure Management, and adjacent teams to gather requirements
Write technical documentation and training materials
Requirements
10+ years of software engineering with a strong hands-on background in infrastructure or compute systems
Strong distributed systems development skills in Go; Python is advantageous
Proven experience owning and evolving distributed systems such as control planes, orchestrators, or agents in production
Experience with virtualization and bare-metal provisioning at scale
Practical experience using Kubernetes in production
Comfortable using agentic coding tools in day-to-day software development
Strong understanding of observability for distributed systems
A track record of leading medium to large technical projects
Experience working across team boundaries and learning adjacent systems
Clear written and verbal English
Nice to have
Hands-on experience with Kubernetes beyond cluster-user work: controllers, operators, and/or CRDs
Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source Kubernetes Operators/Controllers
Experience with configuration management and automation tooling
Experience with out-of-band hardware management APIs and physical architecture at scale
Experience with CI/CD and GitOps approaches to infrastructure delivery
