Data Center Operations Manager - Google

The Hardware Operations team manages the physical infrastructure that powers Google's search technology and AI services. As a Data Center Operations Manager, you will lead a team of technicians responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware and network components. You will oversee complex installations and troubleshooting while ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our global data center operations. This role requires managing day-to-day operations, leading project teams, and developing contingency plans to support Google's massive scale infrastructure.

You will partner with various stakeholders to implement facility strategies and maintain security and operational procedures. The team focuses on delivering unparalleled computing power and AI capabilities to global users. This position involves working with cutting-edge technologies including Linux clusters, network protocols, and large-scale hardware infrastructure. You will model teamwork and positive site culture while ensuring all operations align with organizational goals and safety standards.

• Lead and mentor a team of Data Center Technicians, setting priorities and providing performance feedback
• Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of server hardware and network components
• Manage day-to-day operations and execute project contingency plans for complex installations
• Monitor security and operational procedures while analyzing trends to identify improvement opportunities
• Partner with stakeholders to implement short and long-term facility strategies
• Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshooting on equipment and infrastructure
• Support Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives and compliance programs

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience
• 10 years of experience in computing infrastructure, networking, operating systems, or hardware
• 5 years of experience managing technical, vendor, or delivery teams
• Ability to work non-standard hours including weekends, night shifts, holidays, and on shift-based schedules
• Experience with Linux/Unix system administration
• Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware servers and components
• Strong data gathering, analysis, and presentation skills

• Experience working in large-scale data center environments
• Experience with network and compute architecture life-cycle management
• Experience initiating and executing initiatives in a global environment
• Ability to lead Environmental Health and Safety initiatives
• Strong leadership and teamwork skills
