About the position
The Data Center Engineering team drives the physical design of Google's data centers into the future. You will work on complex topics such as power usage, environmental sustainability, and state-of-the-art facility operations. This role requires a visionary approach to optimizing efficiency and driving continuous improvements. You will collaborate with senior executives and facilities technicians to implement infrastructure upgrades that have a significant impact.
In this position, you will oversee data center projects from site due diligence through construction and operations. You will manage a comprehensive electrical scope, including power supply options, onsite generation, substation arrangements, and system resilience. You will partner with Architects and Engineers to drive technical design across multiple projects, ensuring all safety standards and Google requirements are met. You will also drive cross-disciplinary coordination for rapid construction and integrate the latest electrical technologies into infrastructure roadmaps.
Responsibilities
- Drive scalable electrical systems design (HV, MV, LV, renewables) from site due diligence through construction, localizing internal standards for APAC data center projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and vendors to resolve program-level electrical issues and seamlessly integrate new product developments.
- Ensure designs and installations meet rigorous requirements through engineering analysis, factory witness tests, and adherence to safety, quality, and cost standards.
- Define system-level data center architecture and continuously update internal design specifications by incorporating lessons learned across all equipment.
- Develop operations and maintenance procedures while advocating best engineering execution practices for major infrastructure upgrades.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 5 years of experience in mission-critical facility design and construction environments.
- Experience in electrical infrastructure design and implementation.
Nice to have
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a relevant field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience in estimating, electrical design, operation, and commissioning of substations, switchgear, ATP/ATS, emergency power systems, and their control systems.
- Experience with medium voltage systems.
- Experience in design, construction, and commissioning of high voltage substations, medium or low voltage electrical distribution systems, AC/DC systems, and associated power management tools.
- Experience working with data center equipment and environments, including switchgear, generators, transformers, controls, security monitoring systems, and fire safety systems.
- Understanding of startup and commissioning processes.
